SKINCARE: Papaya Lightening

Let me just get one fact straight... I don't want to whiten. I am not a fan of whitening the skin. I know that a lot of whitening products out there have really harsh chemicals in their ingredients list--some of which can do more damage than good--so I don't subscribe to that "Asian" demand for whiter skin. I do, however, maintain my skin through gentle lightening.

Whitening and lightening are two mistakenly similar terms for two different concepts. When you whiten your skin, you "force" a certain fairness to your reality; while, lightening is simply allowing your skin to reach its natural lightest shade. Your undamaged and natural skin tone even. The one that you would have if you're not exposed to darkening environmental factors like the sun of UV rays from light fixtures. Of course, no other natural ingredient does lightening well for me than papaya. With that, let me share with you today a quick note on my current papaya soap* from Mir and Ryvi.
I'm sure you noticed that a lot of naturally derived skin whitening/lightening products make use of papaya as one of their active ingredients. I'm sure you've also wondered, what is it in papaya that makes it the go-to extract for lightening the skin? Here are some answers... (you may also visit Mir and Ryvi product page here)

First and foremost, papaya has a natural enzyme that helps breakdown the cell and encourage renewal. Notice how when you scrub your body, or specifically your face, you look like you have brighter and fairer skin? That's because a layer of dull tired skin is ideally a few shades darker since they have been broken down by time and environment already. That's why when you peel and reveal a fresher layer of your skin, you instantly look more radiant. Papaya's natural occurring enzymes gently exfoliates the skin and has an equally youth-boosting restorative effect on the skin which leads to a lightening effect (smoothing even) with continued use.

Papayas are also rich in vitamins A, C and E, your skin's favorite vitamins! These nourishing vitamins help the skin maintain its glowing health while also promoting over-all skin clarity. :)

Now for the best part, Mir and Ryvi's Papaya soap is more empowered because it has mulberry extract that is clinically proven to help inhibit melanin production (when your skin produces melanin, it makes your skin appear more pigmented/darker). The very gentle kiss of mulberry extract makes bidding the harmful hydroquinone in most whitening products a formal goodbye!

The Mir and Ryvi papaya soap sits pretty with my shower essentials because it smells so good and lathers up so smoothly on my body. I don't use it for the face regularly, but on days that I don't get sleep (yes, I have zero-sleep days), I use this soap on my face and I feel a hint of radiance envelope my smile. Come to think of it, indeed... if there's a soap out there that can make you smile every time you use it, Mir and Ryvi s Papaya soap is part of that list!

Accompanied with a proper skin lightening regimen (which involves using sunblock, don't forget), I'm very optimistic that I would reap the results of starting an affair with a gentle skin lightening soap than those harsh chemical ones! If you wish to try them yourself, Mir and Ryvi soaps are available at Beauty Bar outlets. :) Follow them on Facebook. Visit Mir and Ryvi website here.

  3. I just use sunscreen whenever I go out. Now my arms are no longer darker than the rest of my body. Hehe! Dead skin cells (along with the darkened layer) are sloughed off naturally anyways, so I don't feel like I have to use lightening products anymore.

  6. In all fairness, Papaya seems to be the most famous source of natural ingredient for skin lightening especially in Asia. I like your idea of keeping it gentle for best results.
